Chris, Jon Randall wrote this blog. Likewise, I appreciated his insight and further explanation. I cannot pretend to know how to answer your question without some in-depth study and talking with you over coffee, but I find many references to our need to confess and repent and it is always focused on the blood of Christ and the forgiving nature of our God. Psalm 32:5 tells us to confess our sins to the LORD; James 5:16 tells us to confess our sins to one anther; 1 John 1:9 tells us to confess to the LORD. In Acts 26:17, 18 we find Jesus' charge to Paul. Jesus tells him that his ministry will be to turn people from darkness to light; from the power of satan to God. It seems that in the NT, the Holy Spirit recognizes the power of satan in the lives of all men, but the primary focus is always on light rather than the darkness. I can't really find any instruction to rebuke satan...I find numerous examples of a believer rebuking another believer because of sin. I do agree with your comment that we must confess our specific sin areas to the LORD. We read that we are to confess our "sins," not our "sin." This leads me to believe that it may be a generic prayer (like Job praying for the generic sins of his children), but more often I have numerous sin areas that need to be identified and confessed by name to the LORD. The spiritual battle rages on, but it seems like Galatians 5 leads me to focus on the power of God and the leading of the Spirit rather than on the power of the evil one. Not dismissing what you are saying, but looking for Scriptural backing.

Rob, thank you for the further explanation. I wonder how one knows what to repent for and what to pray for to break the generational sin? God can certainly take away sin on any level by us just confessing and repenting. However, I think it is more powerful if we know what the exact sin is. Also, I think the enemy needs to hear the exact sin being repented and he needs to hear that we revoke all agreements made with that sin. In my opinion, as much as God needs to hear from us our confession and repentance, satan needs to hear us rebuking him. And both God and satan need to know the "for what". Or will a generic prayer break the generational sin?

Rob,
I sent an email out to all parents a couple of weeks ago that this blog is available. I try to post on the River of Life and Ignited Facebook page every time I post a new blog. I may put a small note in the bulletin this week as well. Constant reminders will be the key to connect parents.

Jon,
Great questions for parents. Do all of us (parents) know about this blog and the questions? Let's try to get the word out. Thanks for taking the time to put this out there...now we (read you mostly!!) need to get the word to us (parents) that this is available.

This tied in really well with what I read this morning in Psalm 86 only David is talking about uniting His heart with the heart of God - "...Unite my heart to fear your Name..." With God and the gospel of Christ as our source, its so true unifying the rest of us will fall into place. Amen.
